The story is only 2 stars, but the movie represents a first on the technological side. Billy Lynn is shot at 120 fps, and the 4K disc is to my knowledge the first 60fps HDR disc ever. This produces a very lifelike (film lovers will argue that it feels TO real!) and looses its film feeling.

Personally, I think it is a matter of getting used to. 60fps delivers amazing sharpness and detail even when the camera moves, and combined with HDR it is a very special experience. We have been used to see the artefacts that is so obvious with 24fps film, and this disc can be used to showcase the difference between UHD HDR 60p and HD 24p. They are two totally different experiences. The UHD disc comes with a Dolby Atmos mix, and the studio decided to go cheap on the Blu-Ray and stayed with a DTS HD soundtrack. A very exciting project from a technical standpoint, the movie itself... well..

I wanted to see this film as I am a big fan of the book. I was wondering how Ang Lee would approach it as the book is very much a running commentary from Billy Lynn’s head which would have been difficult to translate to film. The book is a funny dark satirical look at America, capitalism, the cult of celebrity and war amongst other things and is quite profound in places. The film doesn’t have the same depth at all but is still a pretty good attempt and I was entertained enough throughout. I don’t know how Ang Lee could have made it better, maybe it’s one of those things that should have stayed just in book form.

Firstly, Kristen Stewart shouldn't have top billing as she only has a bit part as the sister of a soldier who heroically tried to save his sergeant(Diesel) in Iraq. The lead actor is a total wet blanket and unbelievable in this role. Due to his efforts, he and his squad are being promoted around the US in football games. He inevitably gets off with a cheerleader and there is constant flashbacks to his heroicism but unfortunately the film is a total bore. A real unexpected turkey for Ang Lee.

4k disc is presented in slightly old fashioned 1.78;1 format,anamorphic but still slightly distorted when projected at 2.35.1. Perhaps most viewers watch on smart phone or tiny screens..Image is good but not outstanding for 4k when projected on a 4k projector to a 155 inch screen.Sound however is very good,especially the half time concert sequence.Good sub woofers will really love the LFE. sound( I have two paradigm Sub 2's).This could do serious structural damage if levels are not watched.

Great triple set with 3d/4k/2k .Amazing detail on 60fps 4k.And native 3d shot blu ray is an cherry on the cake.As of the movie itself i personally like it.I think a lot of people just misunderstood it
