Good film about a legend of Rock 'n' Roll
Revisado en el Reino Unido 🇬🇧 el 9 de enero de 2020
Saw this when it came out in 1978. Wanted the Blue Ray in order to improve on the picture quality of the DVD. This was certainly much better, but I was perplexed by out of sync sound when using the surround sound option. This was very obvious on my extra large screen. Half way through the film this problem seemed to improve. The stereo option was fine !. Somebody was not paying attention in the re-mastering !. The screenplay was not too accurate to Buddy's story. (No mention of Norman Petty), but it captured well the period of the 50's, and is thoroughly entertaining. Recommended.

What a legend!
Revisado en el Reino Unido 🇬🇧 el 13 de enero de 2021
This dvd wasn't bad. Better perhaps than the stage version I saw at Cheltenham. For some reason both productions present Holly as some kind of goofy nerd which I'm bloody sure he wasn't! Also missing lots of true storyline which could be excused if it was packed with Holly songs but a lot of his best numbers were missing for some (maybe copyright) reasons.
Buddy Holly is a legend who influenced everything that followed. This dvd is at best average and nowhere near the standard expected to celebrate so great a star.

Buddy great!!
Revisado en el Reino Unido 🇬🇧 el 13 de abril de 2009
Having seen the great man on stage in 1958, and the stage show in London in the late 1990's it seemed natural to have the DVD of his short and productive life. I have seen the film on TV previously so obviously knew what to expect, but for a lifelong fan, along with many others such as Paul McCartney, Keith Richard etc. it is a film that I can watch time after time without becoming bored. His music is still played today and stands the test of time alongside other greats, and one wonders how far he would have progressed if only the fateful day in 1959 had not occurred. One of the all time heroes of rock and roll, and ballads, who will never be surpassed. Gary Busey obviously doesn't quite match up to the voice of the original Buddy but the film is still very enjoyable and includes some funny moments and some extremely poignant ones. For fans such as me, the ending still invokes a lump in the throat, as we all remember where we were when the news came that he had died in a plane crash. Obviously, I was still at school, and that same feeling was experienced by Graham Nash, as he reminisced in the TV programme on Buddy's life on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of his death in 1959.
Buy it and enjoy it.

The Buddy Holly Story
Revisado en el Reino Unido 🇬🇧 el 12 de julio de 2011
This is the best biopic of a performer (any performer), that I have seen.
It can be watched time and time again just to see the stages performances alone, Gary Busey will soon have you believing that you're are actually watching a real Buddy Holly performance. As Buddy Holly and the Crickets Rock their way through 12 of their greatest hits, this of course includes, "That'll be the day" and "Peggy Sue."
The story tells how Buddy Holly and the Crickets got their name, overcame the prejudice in the mainly redneck town of Lubbock, Texas and went on to conquer the world, through their music.
It also shows the attitudes of 1950's America and how music was changing those attitudes.
I highly recommend this film for anyone who loves early Rock & Roll, is interested in social American history, and likes a feel good story, although I wish that the ending was could be better...

Money well spent.
Revisado en el Reino Unido 🇬🇧 el 11 de enero de 2019
This story may have some facts that are not true to life but I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video for the music and the performance of the characters. It was of good quality, picture was clear and it was perfectly in sync and took me back in time to when I was much younger. Other reviews have criticised this dvd but I can’t fault it at all.
