Plot Synopsis.
After decades of neglect, Castle Heights Hospital is packed with dynamite & ready to be demolished. However, no one knows that a gang leader, now in prison, hid $3 million in stolen cash inside the abandoned building. Now, three desperate parties want the money & they have exactly 90 minutes to find it & get out alive.
Timelord Thoughts.
Mike Wade (Scott Adkins) career as a fighter is over & been evicted from his apartment. Now living in his truck & working as a labourer Mike stumbles upon some bags of money that's hidden in the abandoned Castle Heights Hospital.
Prison guard Richard Ericson (Dolph Lundgren) hears about the stash of money from one of the inmates. His daughter Emily (Ida Lundgren) has cancer & needs a transplant which isn't covered by insurance & Richard can no longer cover the medical bills & desperately needs that money.
Deacon Glass (Scott Hunter), knows the money belongs to his incarcerated brother & it's whereabouts so along with his gang Deacon plans to steal it for himself, the only problem is Castle Heights Hospital is about to be demolished in 90 minutes..
The first 50 minutes of Castle Falls is a slow burn that sets up the main characters & there reasons for wanting to steal the money & while we do get some brief fisticuffs the second half ups the action quota to deliver some kick ass fight scenes especially from Adkins who is a criminally underated action star & far deserving of bigger budget movies.
Dolph Lundgren (who also directs) delivers a good performance & conveys emotion brilliantly at the possibility he could lose his daughter to cancer & proves he still a action force to be reckoned with despite being in his 60's.
Of course with two legendary action heroes in the same movie it's expected there would be some kinda fight scene between Lundgren & Adkins which we do but it's all to brief because they quickly have to team up when the bad guys turn up to take the money & attempt to kill our two main leads.
Fight coordinator Tim Man delivers some excellent choreographed fight scenes that pack a meaty punch while director Lungdrens approach is to use wide angle shots rather than fast cut up close edits which allows viewers to see what's happening on screen. Adkins & Lundgren share a good chemistry as unwilling allies however the supporting cast mostly in Deacons gang fare a tad worse ranging from decent to annoying, i thought the film would've benefited with a stronger actor like Stephen Dorrif in the Deacon as the main antagonist & while the story's resolved it could've done with being 10 minutes longer to flesh out some minor plot devices.
Overall, Castle Falls is a solid entertaining action film that delivers the R' rated goods which despite a slow beginning & some hokey acting aside is worth a watch for those who enjoy 80's B' movie style action flicks.
