Wonderfully conceived - the last three days of Mark Chapman's life before he murders John Lennon. Filmed without sensationalism, just brilliant acting and slow build-up to those final moments you know are coming. His voices and obsession not only with Catcher in the Rye but with the Bible revealed his inner conflicts. Not a bad guy, it seems, just a deranged one.
Chapter 27 tells the true story about the murder of john lennon back in december 1980 in new york city. We are introduced to his killer mark chapman very early on played brilliantly by jared leto who gained a significant amount of weight to perfect the role. We are given an insight into chapmans loner type persona & his pathetic need to become as famous as his hero john lennon even if that means murdering him. He is constantly at odds with himself as he considers murdering his idol & becomes obsessed with the book catcher in the rye. The tension builds with every frame and it is quite uncomfortable to watch as you are aware from the start that this man will eventully cave in to his madness and murder a true musical genius & icon. Lindsay lohan adds support as a lennon fan who hangs around the dakota building were chapman finally murdered lennon, she is fantastic as ever. Overall a very tense, brilliantly acted reconstruction of a true tragedy that shook the world on december 8th 1980.
Talk about commitment to a role, Leto was amazing. In the special features he says he would never do it[the transformation]again in a million years, and i agree with him, if you watched the behind the scenes e tells of the physical strain to his body to become Mark Chapman and his commitment and dedication to the character really pays off. The movie itself is pretty amazing, all the boycotting is ridiculous,If you watch the movie and dont like it then fine but dont turn others away before they've even seen it!
Firstly Yes I am a Jared Leto fan..Lets get that out the way!!...but if I had watched the film NOT KNOWING THIS WAS JARED LETO.I would never have known. He pulls off playing Mark Chapman so well, infact to me it was really creepy,I actually found Mark Chapman to be pretty disturbing. To see the meltdown that goes on within this man over the 3 days leading up to the event is fantastic. Mark Chapman is played out, pretty much how I would have expected him to be, his mind, infact his whole being.Jared has most certanily put a lot of effort into this and it is shown throughout the film. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. A lot of people wanted to get this movie shut down/boycoted..WHY?? As a human being I have NO feelings for Mark Chapman He deserves to be kept behind bars for what he did. but I think it is fair to let people see this movie, as I was only 8 years old in 1980. I had no idea about the assasination. Infact I'm glad I have watched it, and had an incite into this troubled man who took the life of a great man. I like the beatles and I like John Lennon's music, and I think this movie has hit the nail on the head. I do not think it could have been done any better.SUPERB.
Absolutely mind-blowing interpretation of one of the world's most tragic events, the film takes place over three nights in New York following John Lennon's murderer as he transpires from passionate fan to crazed stalker and eventually killer of one of the world's most treasured musicians, the film does not glamorise Chapman in anyway, though Jared Leto is absoultely sensational in every way possible, his performance is certainly in my opinion his best to date, and Lindsay Lohan also shines in her few scenes as a Lennon fan who bonds with him. Recommended to anyone who enjoys either of these actors or like most appreciates John Lennon.
