'ENJOYABLE RE-EMERGENCE OF THE 'ROCKY' FRANCHISE'

If you loved the early 'Rocky' films this won't disappoint it follows a similar format....
'Adonis ''Donnie'' Johnson'' (Alex Henderson) a troubled young-man is serving time in a 'Los Angeles' youth
facility when widow 'Mary Anne' (Phylicia Rashad) learns of her husband 'Apollo Creed's (died in the ring against
'Ivan Drago) son's plight in the institute offering a home with her.
'Adonis' never knew his father, he'd died before he was born, 'Apollo' had had an affair with his mother, he accepts
the offer and is eager to learn more about the father he never knew.
As a young man he appears to be carving out a fine career in the 'securities' business but is unsettled, he loves boxing
and craves to carve out a career doing just that, much to the dismay of 'Mary Anne' 'Donnie' (Michael B Jordan) quits his job.
He try's to find a place at the 'L.A' Delphi Boxing Academy to pursue his dream but is turned down, remaining determined
he decides to travel to 'Philadelphia' to seek out his fathers old friend and boxing rival 'Rocky Balboa' (Sylvester Stallone)
to ask for his help and guidance.
These days 'Rocky' runs a restaurant he'd named after his beloved wife 'Adrian' these days leading a quite life....
Though 'Rocky' is intrigued by the knowledge 'Donnie' has of his career he is reluctant to take on the task of training the
aspiring boxer, though learning of him being the son of 'Apollo' does give him food for thought.
'Rocky' will put ''Donnie'' through the same rigorous regime of training that had made him a champion in years gone by,
with the help of a friend or two from the Front-Street-Gym'
The two will become close, and consider the other, 'family' there will also be romance in the air for 'Donnie' with the
attractive 'Bianca' (Tessa Thompson) a singer-songwriter.
'Donnie' wins his early encounters in the ring, boxing under the name of 'Hollywood Donnie', but, when the manager of the
current undefeated light-heavyweight champion 'Prety Ricky Conlan' (Tony Bellew) learns that the son of former boxing-legend 'Apollo Creed' is a fighter, 'Rocky' is contacted to offer a shot at the title for 'Donnie' providing he boxes under the name of
'Creed'
Well, fairly new to the ring 'Donnie' isn't in the same league as the champion and shouldn't be getting a shot, however the
name 'Creed' will guarantee a sell-out audience in 'Ricky's' home-town of Liverpool.
Training will have to move up a gear if 'Donnie' stands any chance of living with tjhe champion on the night....however whist
training his young prodigy 'Rocky' discovers he has non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma but is reluctant to undergo the treatment that
could save his life.
'Donnie' will encourage 'Rocky' to go-ahead with the necessary Chemotherapy, the two will now support each other in the
fight (for both) to come.
With a superb performance from 'Sylvester Stallone' throughout the film it certainly has reflections of the best moments of
early 'Rocky' films with it's brutal -fight sequence to savour.
There has to be a re-match ??

Creed takes a plot that, on paper, seems rather contrived but actually unfolds pretty artfully and organically. The focus of the film is really Adonis, the illegitimate son of Rocky Balboas great friend/rival Apollo Creed. Adonis has his eyes on a career in boxing (of course) and fancies Rocky as his trainer despite the big man not being entirely sold on the idea.

What follows is a fairly typical underdog story stuffed full of ups and downs. It's an oft told tale which has kind of been told six times already in this franchise alone but when it's told with this much wit, style and verve it still works. It's perhaps more in keeping with the spirit and tone of the original Rocky rather than some of the more guilty pleasure sequels.

The characters make the piece with Rocky and Adonis standing tall - Sly and Michael B Jordan are first class in their respective roles and there's solid support across the board. The in-ring action is presented very nicely although is used sparingly to enhance the impact of the climactic smackdown that all this is building towards. There's plenty of time to do some human drama and frequent pulling of the heart strings although there's also deft doses of humour to lighten the load as required.

It's all good stuff and could probably serve as a whole new franchise starter.

Great movie. I love everyone of the Rocky movies, this is a great edition to the movie series. Michael B Jordan does a great job of playing Adonis Johnson (Creed). Sylvester Stallone reprises his classic role only this time in the background as a trainer.

This movie had it all great story telling and emotional investment of the earlier movies, and great boxing action. The fights in this movie are much more technicality sound to boxing fundamentals. The one and only criticism I have of the movie is the more hip hop than Rock soundtrack, that it everything else I love if this movie.

Adonis Johnson is a trouble child that has a talent for fighting. Learning he is the son of the legendary world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, and adopted by Apollo's widow he is given the chance at a white collar career, but his blood is drawing him to boxing. However nobody in willing to train him properly. Leaving his comfortable life in LA behind he moves to Philadelphia to enlist the help of his father's greatest rival/friend. Slowly improving and given his own "million to one" shot now can he cement his own legacy. I love the family bond in this movie, and the you fight I fight theme. The great thing is there have left great thing for future sequels as well. This is a great movie for boxing and original Rocky fans.

Rebirth of the Rocky/Creed franchise

I remember reading an interview with Sly just after the release (and unexpected success) of Rocky Balboa that the film was his goodbye to the character and that he would not be making more Rocky films, going out on a high unlike the Rocky V entry. When I heard Sly was gonna play Rocky for another film albeit centred around a new character I thought, here we go again, talk about flogging a dead horse and then flogging it some more. However I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this film after watching (due to sheer morbid curiosity). The film faithfully keeps Rocky as a central character but gives it due to the named star. Michael B Jordan as Adonis Creed is superb, watching some of the behind the scenes videos featuring his training is inspiring, not to mention being knocked out for real to be welcomed into the franchise. The film while modern also retains some of the down and out grittiness of the original Rocky film.

The film is essentially a rebirth of the Rocky franchise but with Adonis as the star and Rocky (if Sly does another) taking over the Mickey role as ageing but wise trainer.

A refreshing new addition to the franchise which brings it back to its routes. Things feel more grounded in this one and there's much more of a hip hop soundtrack. My favourite thing about the film is probably the casting of Michael B Jordan. His acting is phenomenal and he really commits to the role physically. The fight sequences are all really well shot and edited. I also like the cinematography too. In a few bits the film is slightly predictable but in other parts it smartly subverts expectations. This has to be one of the best sports films I've seen. The relationships in the film also are very heartfelt and sincere.

Meraviglioso! Di solito non apprezzo i sequel delle grande saghe anni '80 ma questa volta mi devo ricredere!
Film bellissimo, con una trama inizialmente un po scontata che però poi trova il suo posto tra eredità e innovazione.
Bravissimi gli attori, e ottima la parte di Sly Stallone che riesce a essere una figura importante ma senza offuscare il giovane Adonis Creed!

I'd given up on Stallone in recent years, after he seemed to settle for treading water with his awful Expendables films, and the odd cartoon voice-over. His excellent performances in Copland & Rocky Balboa proved he was & is a fine actor, when the right role comes along. However he will probably be remembered unfairly (but voluntarily) as a muscled, brain-dead hard man. Creed once again takes him back to the Balboa character, however he delivers an absolutely masterful display, portraying the lonely, but always optimistic Rocky. It's a natural evolution for the character with Stallone adding a sadness to the man. Despite Sly's efforts Creed is a little cheesy though as a film, and predictable from the get go. I was slightly disappointed with Michael B Jordan's character. Quite one dimensional, and a waste of a fine acting talent. Entertaining, and definitely worth a watch for Stallone's performance.

A truly great film, yes we have been there before but this fantastic director has really made it feel exciting again, Michael b Jordan is fantastic and the beautiful Tessa Thompson is more than just a love interest, yes it's a 'Rocky' movie but packs love of emotion and heart, you could enjoy this just as a dramatic film on its own, as for Stallone...WOW, amazing gutsy performance, in the background but had to be in ths film to make it work, the director got a great low key performance from him , not suprised he got a golden globe and was nominated for an Oscar, awesome✔✔🖒🖒🖒🖒🐸
