A small-town farmer's son reluctantly joins a traveling group of vampires after he is bitten by a beautiful drifter whom he falls in love with.
Near dark is a very cool and unique 80's horror, a vampire story unlike any other of its kind, its a simple tale of two strangers falling in love and the girl happens to be a vampire, so his life is turned upside down as he hits the road with a very dysfunctional family of vampire misfits, they travel the night looking for their next victims to feed on which most of the time results in a bloodbath. The movie looks beautiful most of the time, well lit night scenes and locations, very cool and unique music score which sets a great tone to match the horror, the effects are all mainly good practical ones, the movie gets bloody quite often, the costumes are great, and of course the cast is utterly fantastic, a true collection of 80's gems here including the great Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Jenette Goldstein, plus everyone else is great! This is a must for the collection if your a fan, great horror gem that's unique and worth going back to every now and again, the perfect date night Halloween movie.
The Blu-ray looks amazing in HD the black colours all look very good for the night scenes.
Features are good with 3 commentaries, making of (47mins in English) interviews, and galleries and much more. Audio: Original English, German. Subtitles can be turned off.
Region B for UK players. Running time UNCUT 94mins. Filmjuwelen release. 1987/2021.
The Blu-ray comes with a very nice slipcase too and a mini 24 pages booklet (German text)
