Ahearn's story jumps around a lot, probably not unlike video game choices. He opens with what sounds as though it is going to be war against one Cooper, but more about that as the story develops. Then the pace changes, new characters are introduced, a meteor is aimed at the earth, strikes, and the transformation it causes is a sense of euphoria - people become infected with the Euphoria-Z virus, are immune to pain, and feel only pleasure despite rather noxious wounds, then comes a heinous death and the people rise again as zombies! The Cooper of the opening chapter becomes the leader of a resistance movement to depopulate the world. Adventure abounds as Cooper is out to find his sister in this garish battleground of an uncivilized world. Language is raw, events are X-rated, and the interplays between the good guys and the bad guys has rarely been so well designed. The only flaw (and perhaps for those who play video games already this is not a problem) is the manner in which the story is laid out - in bits and piece, bouncing time frames around to the point of confusion. For those whose `appetite' includes Zombie stories, this book will certainly satisfy. The superb cover art is courtesy of Steven J Catizone. Grady Harp, May 14

Obviously, since there is a “Z” in the title, this is a story about zombies. WAIT, COME BACK! I know we are over-saturated with zombie stories, but this story is different. No really, it is. After a meteor strike, people are infected with the Euphoria Z virus, a virus that takes away all pain receptors of anyone infected, and they only feel pleasure and complete elation. Even when they are horribly and gruesomely injured. Then they die and turn to zombies, BUT the more interesting, and more disturbing part, is the first effects of Euphoria Z. Oh, and the main character is Cooper, and he’s trying to survive.
It actually is a good thing that there is a warning in the description, because this book is fairly violent and disturbing. It reminded me of the MK Ultra experiment, where LSD was introduced in a small town’s water supply, and a man reportedly jumped off a building, broke both legs, and got up and started running again… Anyway, the storytelling is very well done. I was hooked in a short time in, and enjoyed it all the way through. I highly recommend it for the person that might be a little burned out on the whole zombie thing, and wants a fresh take.

To make a very long story short, 400+ pages, “Euphoria-Z” follows the lives of several characters as the survive the unsurvivable. This novel takes a page out of The Walking Dead’s book and has the zombie battles in the background. The real conflict is the humans who are living in this world. And trust me, some of the people are just terrible. The start of the books entire conflict is quite interesting as well. Definitely a first but realistic enough to have me worried.
The downsides to this novel would have to be the scattered points of view, the length of it all, and the fact that there is no clear mission. Which in itself is the books greatest strength. It relays the fear of confusion and the unknown extremely well.
Overall a great read. 4/5

What I liked most was the multiple character POVs and the connections between them all. As much as I would like to think the world and the people left in it would react better, I feel like Luke captured some real aspects of human nature. Whether they were good or bad.
Overall, I enjoyed the separate but related stories and characters. There were a few times where I had to reread a description of the action taking place. I'm not sure why but some of it just didn't seem to explain what was happening very well. After rereading it made sense, just disrupted my flow of reading enough that I had to put the book down a couple of times. I hope this is only something to do with me though. The book as a whole made up for it. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking to read more horror, post apocalyptic or zombie novels.

When I first started reading it I felt like I was reading a script for those B Movies from back in my day. Not that I am ancient in age but I am up there in my years. I was almost ready to put it down and delete it from my tablet but I have a rule. If I start a book I have to read at least the first hundred pages of it before I make my decision to either finish it or discard it. I am so glad I did follow my own rules on this..
This book is a very good read and can be very hard to put down... I like the way the author bounces the story from one character to the next with each chapter. He makes it to where you have to pay attention and remember what happens to that character so you can keep up.
I am at the point of where "Fats" is remembering who he is and what he was.
Due to the language, graphic nature of the description of the Zombies and Killing of Zombies, and the graphic sexual language I would not recommend this book to anyone under the age of 17 (Yeah if this was a movie this would be a PG-17 on the old ratings LOL). The only reason my Step-son got away with reading it is because his mother bought it for him. When she said that there was no Parental Warning on the front of it, I showed her the first page of the book...
Again this is a very good book.... Waiting for book two of the series to come out...
