I devoured this Harlan Coben book in a little over a day as usual. I’ve been reading Harlan’s work for a number of years now, each book is better than the last. This is the third instalment of the young adult series centering around Mickey Bolitar and his friends, Ema, Spoon and Rachel. If you’re already a reader of Harlan’s books you will recognise that last name, Mickey is Myron’s nephew.
I’ve been throughly enjoying this young adult series and this book was no different. Lots of the questions raised in the first two Mickey books were answered while lots more were formed. I loved the fact that a subject in Harlan’s most recent adult novel Missing You was also touched upon in this book.
As these Mickey Bolitar books have been published once a year and so many intense situations happen in each book it was a shock to be reminded shortly into the book that only a few weeks had passed since were first introduced to Mickey and only around 8 months since the car accident that changed Mickey’s world…
As per usual Harlan delivered a book full of twists and turns. Just when you thought you knew what someone was up to it was completely turned on it’s head in the next sentence. My heart swelled and then broke for Ema. My respect for Spoon which was already immense, grew. And Mickey just gets more awesome and bad ass with each book! I might have a little crush.
While this is the final instalment of the Finding My Father series. I can’t hope enough that there are to be more books and more challenges for Mickey and the others. The way Mickey’s mind works and the way the answers suddenly make sense when he’s almost given up hope is awesome and not unlike his uncles. There is so much more potential for Mickey. I can’t wait to learn how him and Ema move forward, how his basketball career progresses and just what crimes they find themselves in the middle of solving next. I really have become attached to these new friends of mine!
