Aktuell könnten wir da als Kontrapunkt für die Nachrichtenmeldungen, die uns täglich um die Ohren schwirren, vor allem Komödien über Terror und Suizidbomber gebrauchen. FOUR LIONS geht genau auf dem Gebiet mit bodenlos bösem Beispiel voran. Ersonnen vom skandalträchtigen TV-Mastermind Chris Morris, der die britische Medienwelt gern mal aus den Angeln hebt, erzählt die wahnwitzige Farce von vier extremistischen Muslimen in den englischen Midlands, die der Arroganz der westlichen Kultur mit einem gewaltigen Anschlag eine gepfefferte Lektion erteilen wollen. Das Problem ist: Die vier sind das, was im Englischen so schön mit "bumbling idiots" umschrieben wird. Sie sind Vollspacken. Zwei von ihnen fliegen aus einem pakistanischen Ausbildungslager, weil sie mit einer Panzerfaust so ziemlich alles anstellen, außer das Ziel zu treffen. Der Dritte trainiert Krähen als Bombenkuriere. Und nicht zu vergessen der vierte Mann im Bunde: ein nicht-arabischstämmiger Konvertit, dessen Verbohrtheit die der anderen um Längen toppt und der sich mit seinem Nihilismus in eine Sackgasse befördert, aus der heraus es wohl tatsächlich keinen anderen Ausweg gibt als ein Selbstmordattentat. Es ist, als wären Ali G., Monty Python und das verbale Feuerwerk von IN THE LOOP zu einem effektiven Sprengsatz fusioniert. FOUR LIONS ist eine der seltenen Komödien, die richtig ab- bzw. im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes hochgeht.

Estamos ante una de las mejores comedias inglesas de la historia por lo menos para mi gusto, una comedia ácida que toca sin complejos una próblematica como es el terrorismo Islamista. Dinamica, disparatada y subrealista así se podría definir el filme de Chris Morris, que sin pudor alguno le pone el toque cómico a un drama, sin llegar a ser una comedia negra, bordea perfectamente ese limite entre géneros.

Volviendo a la edición la calidad de imagen es excelente como nos tiene habituados CAMEO en todas sus ediciones en BR, el sonido un nitido 5.1 por eso que el lado técnico esta mas que cubierto. En cuanto a los extras nos deja un poco fríos presentando un triste trailer, que se compensa con un interesante corto llamado La culpa dirigido por David Victori.

En resumidas cuentas si quieres reírte y tener una de las mejores comedias britanicas de los últimos años esta es tu edición. Con una mas que notable relación calidad precio.

I thought it was a great film. It plays on the interaction between the modern, young born-again Muslims and the white, strict converts, fighting against race, hatred and bigotry. How each of them acts and reacts not only to others, but themselves. In parts, it is funny, but there is also the dark underlying reality that there are people like this, on both sides. It is an eye-opener and the ending stunned me. I was told by someone, that if I liked East is East, I would like this. But it is more eye-opening and made me more thoughtful and I've made subtle changes to my life, so I'm more accepting.

What a sad story this is in the guise of comedy. A group of deluded jihadis think they are doing the right thing but most of them are doing it for the wrong reasons, either because they are mis-informed, lack the correct understanding of why they are doing things or just because they want to fit in with a world they don't fully understand.

They bumble around, getting things wrong, messing things up and end up tragically ending their own lives one by one and achieving nothing. A very relevant film which, no doubt, started off as a silly comedic idea but has much darker undertones and a sorry sadness that's very relevant in today's world of religious fervour and its consequences.

It shows just how easily young men can end their own lives for their beliefs and, although it's supposed to be funny, it really isn't. It just goes to show what a tragic waste of life this kind of thinking can lead to when staying alive and working in other ways to put across your beliefs would be much more fruitful and helpful towards what you are trying to achieve, not only for yourself but for others around you and the world in general.

Considering how uneasy I am even writing a review about a hilarious comedy about mixed up British Asian buffoons going in for jihad, how much more amazing that the writers and cast tackled it in such a refreshing and bold way!
It's a bit like Citizen Smith meets Dad's Army but with suicide bombers.
There are some fantastic one liners. We have a new catch phrase in the family "rubber dinghy rapids". And there is loads of slapstick too in the good old fashioned way. But there is also poignancy and sympathy for the characters who never seem sure what they are trying to achieve but nevertheless have a naive and passionate desire to do something drastic for........ Allah? Asian youth? Islam? Balti Britain? I'm not sure.
Several points are both shocking and laugh out loud at the same time. And the final denouement is surprising, moving and very well done. And funny. And sad.
The acting is great, even or especially the lead character's young child. Barry (Nigel Lindsay) - the white convert to Islam is genius. But the best acted part is definitely the lead - Riz Ahmed as Omar. He seems a bit 2 dimensional at first but he deepens into a sympathetic character who is really trying to do the right thing and is increasingly aware he does not know what that is.
If the movie is trying to make a point I think it is that half arsed ideologies can be as dangerous or more so than fervently held fundamental ones. It is easy to know what you are p*****d off with and to blame others for it but much harder to know what you want and take responsibility for going after it. As such I think it is a very moral film and its tone is surprisingly gentle and sweet too. No blood and guts whatsoever.

Gave the movie a five star rate because it needs to be watched enjoyed and laughed with... and not at.
I felt it was a bit like watching Dr Who from behind the sofa, not from the scariness but from wincing at the humour and the skewed truth of inept terrorists. At the confusion of wanting to be a hero and a follower of a religion and getting it all wrong.
The ignorance and sheer horror of western politicians and those ''in charge'' who have too much power and add to the mess of the whole thing. Who in fact make it worse and devalue those who are confused and have nothing
This film need to be watched on a smaller screen, I did'nt go to the flicks but waited for the dvd, so it is close up and personal.
I can really recommend this movie it is both thoughtful and laugh out loud, so loud it made me get out from behind the sofa.

Dont know if it is black comedy think it is more black funny truth and Chris Morris has done it again
laughing and thinking together is good......

Very funny indeed, a touch of the Full Montys. Just the sort of treatment that religious fundamentalists of any sort need, the best reaction is laugh at the fools. My only gripe is that if you are from other parts of the English speaking world the Yorkshire accent is rather impenetrable and so I missed a large number of the no doubt excellent jokes. If there had been subtitles I would have given this marvellous film five points.
