UNA HERMOSA PELICULA HOMENAJE A LA NOUVELLE VAGUE

Super agradable película en la mejor tradición del cine francés de la nouvelle vague con toque indies neoyorkinos. Una delicia, una interprete sensacional y una atmósfera de gran cine. Musica en parte de George Delerue, y cierto toque de Woody Allen de la época de Manhattan. Los cinefilos la disfrutaran a tope y aquellos que no se adentren en sus miles de referencias verán una comedia fresca , inteligente y moderna. Muy recomendable para una tarde de verano o una noche con amigos. Muy hispers o cool, como se prefiera.

A lovely, sweet little film that anyone involved with the arts will probably identify with; Frances is a dancer with talent, but with an ambition that isn't realistic; this well-observed narrative charts her gradual coming to terms with herself and finding creative fulfilment along with financial stability; along the way she resolves her relationships – especially with her best friend.
Touted as a comedy and shot in black and white, it's a quirky wee flick – some have compared it to Woody Allen, but it isn't a full-blown comedy and although it covers an artistic milieu, it isn't as mannered as Allen's approach and is clearly depicting a younger generation.
I saw this on TV and immediately ordered the DVD; it's a truly wretched individual indeed who can find issue with it – I almost feel sorry for those who can't find the feel-good factor in this.
The standard UK DVD release has no extras; English subtitles are available if required.

Such a good film! It's in black and white and I didn't even notice until my second viewing... That's got to be a testimate to how intriguing it is. Frances is a completely useless 20someting in New York but she is working out who she is and what she wants to do, and is endearing rather than irritating. I recognise all her escapades (to a much lower degree) and relate to her character development. I recommend to everyone pretending to or wondering how to adult.

The film won't appeal to everyone, but if you are its target audience (you enjoy quirky, charming, Woody Allen-esque (think "Manhattan") black and white edit of the lovely cinematography) you will thoroughly enjoy this! I certainly did, even though I found Frances Ha often irritating and tiresome, I felt tender towards this "looking older than her 27 years" child who literally dances her way through the streets of New York, and you know she is going to be alright in the end.

Frances Ha - both the film and the heroine - is elegant yet awkward, graceful yet so obviously out of place, bright and funny and kind-hearted.

For a film which does not have Hollywood usual romance in it, it is surprisingly romantic. Recommended for a relaxing night in.

This movie was just great! I loved Frances - she was a really endearing character, but more often than not, her insensitive friends 'put on' her and this made you want to shake her and make her stand up for herself and stop being a 'door mat'.

The film is 100% character driven and does not fall under any of the conventional genres. It isn't a romantic comedy, it's not a straight up comedy and neither is it a drama - what it is, is a glimpse into the ordinary life of an ordinary girl trying to make her way in a world that so often dismisses us and makes us feel insignificant. It is about someone who has a dream to be one thing but then finds that dream is never likely to be and so, in accepting this fact, she finds a different way to be and finds happiness in this.

I loved the film for its honesty, for its simplicity and for its intelligently written storyline, which was simple, but brilliant and redemptive.
