I saw this in 1986 when it first came out on vhs, it was funny then and it's still funny now. A lot of the wise cracks are delivered with machine gun efficiency, I watched it with my wife on 19th Feb afternoon, although she usually finds American humour a bit forced she giggled most of the way through this one (a good sign) some of the lines in this film I still use to amuse on the odd occasion. Sally Kellerman breathes her way through the script, wish we had her as an English lit teacher I would have paid more attention. the rest of the cast bounce along with it, and the story contains an unusual thread of cynicism through some scenes but many a true word said in jest. If you go for Rodney's bulging eye routine and quick fire gags this one is not a waste of 90 minutes, by this for a rare film, a comedy that is actual funny.

Have always liked the movie, being genuinely funny and the perfect vehicle for Dangerfield. The laughs are plentiful without being mean, and even the romantic sub-plot plays out without feeling forced or unnecessary. Great support from Burt (Rocky) Young, Keith (Christine) Gordon, Sally (M*A*S*H) Kellerman and Robert (moneybags) Downey Jr really make the whole thing work. It's one of the best comedies of the 80s, and worth seeking out, especially in its rather nice Blu-ray form.

* Contrary to the information listed in the Amazon description, the American Blu-ray disc is NOT region-A locked. I have a multi-region machine and have tried it when setting it to region-B and it plays perfectly. So what are you waiting for????
