WINNER OF THE GOODREADS CHOICE AWARDS DEBUT NOVEL OF THE YEAR.
A BOOKTOK SENSATION.
A wedding in Spain. The most infuriating man. Three days to convince your family you're actually in love. . .
Catalina Martín desperately needs a date to her sister's wedding. Especially when her little white lie about her American boyfriend has spiralled out of control. Now everyone she knows – including her ex-boyfriend and his fiancée – will be there.
She only has four weeks to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic for her and aid in her deception. NYC to Spain is no short flight and her family won't be easy to fool. . . But even then, when Aaron Blackford – the 6'4", blue-eyed pain in the arse – offers to step in, she's not tempted even for a second. Never has there been a more aggravating, blood-boiling and insufferable man.
But Catalina is desperate and as the wedding gets closer the more desirable an option Aaron Blackford becomes. . .
The Spanish Love Deception is an enemies-to-lovers, fake-dating romance. Perfect for those looking for a steamy slow-burn with the promise of a sweet happy-ever-after.
"Everything you could want in a romance is right here."

Okay, the hype for this one is real, like, absolutely real! At first, I thought the main characters were stupid, because, as I was reading, I had less and less reasons to believe Lina should hate Aaron. Of course, I was proven wrong. But then again, so was she.
This story is centered in both the US and Spain. I loved the references to pop culture, especially Twilight - god, that *spider-monkey* reference nearly made me fall of my chair from laughter 😂 -, the spanish vocabulary, the cooking, the family drama and the blooming, slow-burn romance! Everything about this book was perfection itself.

I am a complete SUCKERRR for anything romcom, how can you not be? They are fun and highly enjoyable and TSLD is definitely now up there with some of my all-time favourites.
TSLD starts of with Lina desperately needing a date for her sister's wedding back home in Spain, she has two problems; 1) she told her family she was bringing her boyfriend butttt she does not have one. 2) Her ex just happens to be the brother to the groom AND the best mate. This Ex is also a part of her reasoning for wanting to start fresh in America!
Enter: Aaron.
pain in her arse, stuck up, Aaron. Lina annoying work colleague. Yes, he is gorgeous but that doesn't matter when he is constantly making your life hell. Aaron offers, insists in fact, to help Lina out, by posing as her date for the wedding... what could go wrong?!
This has some of my all-time favourite romance tropes and honestly, Elena NAILED the sexual tension between Lina and Aaron. OH MY GOD, It was killing me, I couldn't wait to finish this book so I may have read it in less than a day hahaha BUT it was totally worth it!
GO BUY THIS BOOK for some much-needed escapism.

meu sonho viver um romance desse, obrigada autora, por escrever algo que eu nem sabia que precisava ler.

Let's get the enormous elephant out of the room first. This is a poor version of The Hating Game. Poor because, while it lends embarrassingly heavily on so many tropes and quirks from that particular Enemies to Lovers romance, it lacks the heart and soul of THG. Right off the bat we get: Messy Vs Neat freak; Short Vs Tall; Friendly Vs Serious. We also get soaking wet woman picked up by adoring (but grumpy) colleague in car, the favour of pretend significant others (in this case it's fake boyfriend). Also an unwell damsel in distress moment. Oh, and our illustrious hero rarely smiles. But when he does, it's magical. If this doesn't sound very familiar to another Enemies to Lovers work colleagues storyline, I don't know what to tell you.
What it lacks is the sass of THG's lead characters. Aaron is so transparent with his feelings (regardless of what Lina might try desperately to have us believe), and is often gazing at her (yet she's oblivious). It also completely lacks the thing that makes THG so good: there's no whip-smart banter being traded here. We have a heroine often stumbling over anything approaching a coherent sentence (that's when there isn't 3+ pages of rambling internal dialogue before she answers a simple question); and a hero who grunts, frowns, and growls. A lot.
Still, generally speaking, I liked Aaron. He at least came across as genuine and adorable. But it's near impossible to root for a female lead quite so vacuous, oblivious and frankly emotionally stunted as Lina. The first third is tedious. It does pick up in Spain, and there are some lovely moments but even those feel rushed after so many long-winded chapters about how much Lina hates Aaron for no apparent reason other than one sentence she overheard out of context, when it's clear to literally every single other person around them that Aaron has heart eyes almost constantly around her.
What I found most frustrating is that there's a REALLY good story somewhere under all the terrible characterisation of Lina, the blatant rip offs of THG, the poor editing*, and the random bits of plot that just fizzle out (what happened to the all-encompassing open day plot?!)
*Grammar and punctuation errors: Some of the dialogue doesn't read realistically. There are a lot of sentences that would feel less stilted and proper if they were at least contracted. There are also NUMEROUS grammatical errors - particularly in relation to prepositions - and one actual plot error involving the ex. There's no excuse for either in a professionally published book.
