Well Season 5 saw Atlantis end and I thoroughly enjoyed how it was all done. The stories, the cast interactions, it all worked excellently.

Torri Higginson should have been persuaded to return and Dr Weir's character was in desperate need of saving, it's a shame that never happened.

Season 5 is also an excellent example of a series that absolutely deserved a 6th and final season to finish the story as you can tell its not done when you watch 'Enemy at the Gate'.
Alas this is it.

My Stargate Collection is now complete! And I couldn't be happier about it.

Still debating whether to get Stargate Universe but it was ended on a semi-cliffhanger so I may leave that one for a few more years to come.

Thanks for the memories Stargate!

When I originally heard of Stargate SG-1 planning a spinoff series, I was intrigued. Apart from some first season lemons, SG-1 did pretty well (while Jack O'Neill was on the team - enough said) but when the leads from Farscape joined the regular cast, I lost heart a bit.

Atlantis premières and while there are similarities in characters, notably Shepherd with his O'Neill ("..with two L's. There's another Colonel O'Neil with only one L, and he has no sense of humor at all.") style of humour and military training. I was genuinely hooked.

The most notable downside of Atlantis is that it ran for just 5 seasons. This boxed set representing the last season.

Personally I feel that the interest waned for Atlantis and the focus switched to Stargate: Universe which was more akin to Star Trek: Voyager.

I never felt that Atlantis bore resemblance to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Like Firefly and many other good shows, Atlantis went before it's time.Considering that SG-1 ran for 10 seasons but ran out of steam after 7 seasons, Atlantis came out of the blocks running and kept it up throughout it's run.

This final season does not disappoint.

Stargate Atlantis was a spin off from Stargate SG1. It took them out of this universe to a galaxy far far away where they found Atlantis.
Anyone who has not watched Stargate Atlantis seasons 1-4 will not appreciate season 5, but it is doubtful if they would be tempted to buy it anyway.
Season 5 rounded off a number of the storylines which have been on the go for a while and managed to keep the impetus going with sufficient derring do and the odd touch of romance to make it both interesting and fun, the end was different from what I had imagined it might be and anyone who likes their galaxy travel to be remotely feasable will find fault, particularly with the ending, however I am happy with a bit of wibbly wobbley timey wimey so I enjoyed it.
It both concluded the ongoing storylines and left the door open for development should said open door be necessary.
It is good escapism for those who like sci-fi instead of soaps, the cast blended well producing consistantly good performances and while some storylines were a bit predictable by and large they were interesting. If you enjoyed seasons 1-4 then season 5 provides a good finalle.

Since I've already seen every single episode of Stargate Atlantis many years ago on televison, I have decided to buy all the DVD boxed sets simply to watch them all over once again. I was never disappointed with this amazing Sci-fi series which followed on from Stargate SG1, of which I also have collected all the DVD boxed sets.
If you're an avid sci-fi fan like myself, you will not be disappointed with this series, which covers 5 Seasons.
The main enemy in Stargate Atlantis are the Wraith, and you will get to see other enemies such as the Replicators. Yes, even they are back which were also shown in the original Stargate series.
You will truly enjoy the amazing special effects, and although you will experience some sad scenes, the producers have included some great humour in Atlantis too. Doctor Rodney McKay (one of the characters) is one of my favourites. David Hewlett who plays him is a brilliant actor, and his charm and sense of humour is top class!!
Definitely one to watch.
However the company who I bought the DVD boxed set from had faulty DVD's and had to send it back for a replacement.
Sadly even the replacement DVD boxed set wouldn't work very well either :(
I think it must be due to the DVD discs being dual layered or something. How you're supposed to fix something like that I simply do not know.
I watched it on a proper DVD player too!! So be warned if you want to buy this DVD boxed set. Most annoying!!
I've now had to resort to buying the single DVD's by Volume instead.

What a shame that this excellent series was taken off the air after only 5 seasons, I feel that they could have done so much more with the series. The acting and the humour was terrific and much missed, in some ways Stargate Atlantis in my opinion was better than the original Stargate series.
Season 5 of Stargate Atlantis continues the fight with the Wraith and Michael and sees yet another leader put in charge (Sam leaves in the beginning of season 5) All the episodes in season 5 are excellent and have left the way open for a rumoured movie being developed, also a new series Stargate Universe is due to air soon so I hope they will continue to keep up the standard of great TV shows that we have become accustomed to!
