Bought for minecraft mad 5 year old who thinks school is boring because all they do is writing. He was more than happy to do a few pages as he forgot he was doing work because he was talking about minecraft. Easy diversion, parents 1 - child 0
There seems to be far more explanation than activity in this book, and the activities are not well-thought out. For example, it begins with non-intuitive spelling, and some of the vocab used is beyond 5-6yo level imo. We previously tried 'Writing for Minecrafters' (an unofficial workbook) which was far, far better. I will probably buy more books from that series.

I have received this English workbook to review on behalf of Amazon. It arrived promptly and well packaged. Like other books in this series, this is a very well presented workbook. Unlike the maths book we tried, I had to help my 7 year old with this a lot. That's not so much of an issue, but just realise that some can be done independently whilst others cannot. This book is the later. Still it is a really good book.
5,0 de 5 estrellasFun way to engage a child at home

I got this and the Math Minecraft book to encourage a 6 year old to want to study at home. It’s hard for a little person to understand that they have homework at a young age so making it more fun is so important I feel and for a minecraft loving child this style book is perfect!

Ordered for my nephew who potentially has dyslexia and so is quite demotivated with learning due to his struggles with reading. He loves Minecraft so got these to encourage him through something he’s interested in. Makes a difference getting him to read when he’s interested in the subject matter.
4,0 de 5 estrellasA lot of text to read and a bit tricky

This workbook is good value for money but I do think some of the activities are a bit tricky.
This series is ideal for fans of Minecraft to give a boost at Year 1 English skills. Answers are provided at the back and they are clear to follow. The paper in this workbook is good quality and pens don’t tend to bleed through.
At the start of the workbook there is a clear explanation for parents and it indicates that parental support may be required for explaining. The book follows the characters of Tom and Eva on an adventure where you collect emeralds for correct answers. These can be ‘exchanged’ on the final page at a market. I like that harder questions on the pages are indicated with a heart, as this provides a visual prompt for children that they will find it more challenging. Collecting emeralds are based on correct answers, so parents need to mark the work quite regularly so children can see how much they are accumulating.
Topics covered include: days of the week, punctuation, creative writing, phonics and spellings.
There are lots of bright pictures that will appeal to children however, some pages have a lot of writing, especially as the ‘story’ develops. This is where additional support for children is likely to be required.
This is a nice idea: it’s a Minecraft story and a workbook. It’s an engaging workbook that covers a range of skills that are appropriately challenging. However, I think it would be better if there was slightly less dense text to appeal to all reading abilities. Furthermore, I think the final section is quite challenging, where the activities focus on composition and creative writing; this is where I anticipate most adult support will be required.
4,0 de 5 estrellasGreat workbook but more suited for age 6-7

My 5 year-old son started school in August, and we have been really keen to help him work further on his English at home.
As an avid Minecraft fan, he was absolute delighted to receive this book and has been really engaged with it.
Adult or older sibling help is required quite a bit with this book — far more than for the maths version which we also have. As the book progresses, there's a lot more reading and writing skill required, and I feel that it is thus a tad too advanced for the first year of school. I think it’s more appropriate for age 6-7.
There are a lot of pictures, which are helpful in keeping a child interested, and topics include days of the week, punctuation, creative writing, phonics and spelling.
At £3.99, it is very reasonably priced, but I would recommend for the slightly older than recommended age of 5-6.
Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.
