If you are looking for a feel good book, one that helps you to forget your troubles for a few hours then I would happily recommend After I Do. The concept of this book was incredibly simple but important. It highlights so many things around marriage. The importance of communication and not taking each other for granted.

After I Do tells the story of Lauren and Ryan. When their marriage reaches breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.

I loved the way Reid explores the complexities of marriage and reminds the reader that “the grass isn’t always greener”. Marriage takes a lot of hard work, and commitment. I felt the couple’s decisions weren’t necessarily ones I would make faced with a similar situation. But never the less I loved the story and the outcome. The perfect book for a quick, escape all your troubles kind of read.

Yes, I'm still on the binge-reading trip through her books.
There is only one book left and I'm sad because I really, really love her writing style.

This book is a little bit different.
I think it's also more suited for an older reader. For readers that are in a relationship for a long time.
Maybe that's why young readers don't particularly like this book, but I really enjoyed it.

I'm not saying that I liked everything in this book, there are a lot of things that bother me and a lot of things that I wouldn't be able to accept if I were the main character.
The story aroused many different emotions in me.
I think a lot of the things described in this story could be described as unorthodox.
I for myself would call it unacceptable for myself.
The story is provocative and makes the reader question their own beliefs in marriage and what it means, how would we feel in their place, or compare them to our own life.

I believe everyone has their own perspective on marriage and everyone should do what is best for them, but after reading the book I'm sure that their solution to save their relationships would never have worked for me.
It's not because I'm catholic but more because of my possessive and jealous character.

So yes, as you can see, the book, like all her books, got me thinking and made me question my biased opinions.

This is among many other reasons why I love TJR books so much.
The controversial topics and the way she writes about them make her one of my favorite authors.

A lot more of a chick lit story than other Taylor Jenkins Reid stories I’ve read. This is a true romance and smooch novel, that will probably have you cry at some point, but it isn’t hard hitting. It is well written and has a poignant story. It is lovely and has a nice message.

Finally, I picked up Taylor Jenkins Reid. She was my most anticipated author and I was not disappointed. While I won’t say that she is my favorite author, I am definitely going to read more of her books because her writing has me intrigued! Honestly, it is not the kind of writing I am used to. When I started reading, I felt disconnected or untethered from the story. But the writing style slowly grew on me.

Lauren and Ryan met when she was 19 years old. They both fell in love and there was no turning back. They got married and settled down. But then came a point in their life wherein they could not stand each other. So rather than calling it quits, they decided to give their relationship a chance. To stay apart from each other for 1 year, explore other relationships, explore themselves - no rules and then meet after a year and see where they stand.

This is a story of self-discovery, a journey really to know yourself, to know what you want and what you don’t. To know what is acceptable to you and what is not. To know what you do once you fall out of love with the only relationship you ever knew. To know it is ok not to be ok. It’s ok to take a step back and figure things out. To know that your feelings are important, you are important but honesty is equally or rather more important.

“Maybe needing someone isn’t about not being able to do it without them. Maybe needing someone is about it being easier if they are by your side.”

This story was an eye-opener in so many ways. Reid is ruthless in exploring the bitter truth of the marriage. But she does it in such a way that you won’t resent or feel uncomfortable. Rather you would feel it and relate to it. Also, I loved the fact that there is no good person or bad person in this book. Lauren is not perfect and neither is Ryan hence it was easy to grasp the essence of this story. I loved Lauren’s family - each one of them had something amazing to offer.

A simple but powerful read. Absolutely recommend.

I read this book in a week because it was an easy story to engage with, however I felt it was clear what was going to happen in the book from the beginning, but as stated this isn't always a bad thing as it made it an easy read.

After I Do... what can I say? Anything Taylor Jenkins Reid writes is beautiful. Her storytelling reels you in with emotions. It's one of those novels you can't put down... one that questions your own relationship.

This book really spoke to me, mostly because it really hits home, you know? I'm not married. I'm in a long-term relationship. We sometimes fight about trivial things, so I can very easily picture us in the roles of Lauren and Ryan. We have all experienced the thrill and butterflies of new love, and then found ourselves wondering where the spark was after time has passed. What's next?

The story is told from Lauren's POV, but we occasionally get Ryan's POV in a different medium. Their narrative was emotional, relatable, and presented in a way that made me root for them. I loved Lauren's family and the dynamics of her relationship with not only her and her siblings, but Ryan's close connection to her family. It gave a look into how our relationships affect our families just as much as ourselves.

In the end, it's a reminder of why you have to try to be your own person and do your own things while being in a loving relationship, so that you don't lose your sense of self-worth or who you really are.

My husband and I have been married for 45 years, so I have some insight into how difficult KEEPING a marriage from going bad can be. I found much of this story resonated, with one large exception. A period of separation can do wonders for helping both people see how much they actually like/miss about their partner when they aren't also being subjected to what drives them crazy about that same person. Often, it helps a person decide how much they want to overlook/live with their partners' foibles because their love for that person is greater.
That said, being given the freedom to "be single" (having sex with others) while still married is a HORRIBLE plan. Not once have I ever seen a plan such as this result in the couple successfully re-uniting. If one of them has a desire to work things out, the other one probably isn't going to want to. Even if they both agree to get back together, jealousy or comparisons (regarding the "others" they were with) will erode whatever trust there is left. Of course, this is looking at it from an old-fashioned person's perspective. The young adults today quite possibly are more willing to accept that kind of arrangement based on what I am seeing; how differently being "a couple" can be defined these days.

After I do was written around a similar time to Maybe in another life, and I must say I love the writing style and premise of both these books.

This book is so well written , TJR knows how to capture our hearts by writing real human emotion. I loved this concept . How many marriages can become hard work? What is the answer to a happily ever after when you feel like the love has faded? I loved how TJR explores the truth about marriage and love. I wondered how the year apart would work , would it fix or break the marriage? I changed my mind several times about this couple and whether I wanted them to make it or not.

I am loving TJR's back catalogue , this is the style of writing I enjoy, and I wish I could write like this!

A real page turner, I can also see this making a great film! 💜
