I got frustrated with hunting for good quality episodes on the Internet, so I broke down and got the final box set to add to my collection. I fail to understand why the series was canceled after only five seasons. "Atlantis" could easily continue for two or three more. The writers left many questions unanswered. Will the Wraith be defeated or just rendered harmless? Will the lost tribe of Asgard reintegrate into the Pegasus galaxy and form an alliance with the humans? How many more bodiless Replicators are out there? Are there more runners scattered about the galaxy?

With a few exceptions ("The Seed"), Season 5 of "Stargate Atlantis" maintains the high quality storytelling and sheer unbearable suspense seen from day one of the series. The possible solution to the Wraith problem seems humane. The frequent appearances of "Todd" are not only a delight to watch, but also give you hope that Wraith and humans will be able to share the galaxy, but there is enough treason to make you lose that hope. The appearance of Asgard is an unexpected but pleasant surprise that rekindles your hope there will be a way to resolve the conflict. The revival of FRAN/Dr. Weir is long overdue, but does not close the matter completely. The homage to "CSI" in the penultimate episode is well done.

With "Stargate Universe" falling short of the first two series, I hope the writers will put some effort into a few DVD release movies to tie up some of the loose ends that are dangling before us devoted fans.

I love SGA. The fifth season had some unfortunate departures from what I loved about the show, but it does contain two of my favorite episodes from the series, The Shrine and Vegas.
I always love the behind the scenes and extras, really liked that they finally had an interview with Joe Flanigan (Sheppard).
I wish there had been more actor commentaries (only one, from Jason Momoa on Broken Ties). The producers and writers seem to focus more on process and the mechanics of making the show, the actors seem to focus on the story and the characters, which is really why I want to hear the commentaries.
I truly did not appreciate the emphasis on the McKay and Keller romance this season, it disrupted the great team dynamics that were the heart of the series and lessened the importance of Sheppard, Teyla and Ronon.
I don't like hearing how the writers/producers think that this romance was cool, but, on the other hand, it is interesting to hear how much their perception of the show differs from what I and so many other fans saw as the good and the bad of SGA.
On the whole, I'd recommend this DVD set. Some great eps and some interesting extras.

Yes folks SCI-FI (Now SyFy, the wrasslin' and Ghost Story network) doesn't have to pay as much money to the actors because they never reached 100 episodes. At 100 you get a check as long as it's in syndication, so let's screw the little guys (Flanagan, Hewlitt, Mamoa, etc.) out of every penny we can. That's how they roll.
After being a little slow in Season 3 and picking up in Four, Season Five showed promise. The "Evil" Asgard and the attacking aliens from "Daedalus Variations" offered 2 possible new story arcs. But wait, we can't let any actors share in the success, cancel the show so we can get more money for ourselves! Thanks NBC/Universal!!
I bought this one used on Amazon to deny the rights' owners any new income. MGM's financial cratering and sale of all props and wardrobes pretty well assure that NO future pick ups of Stargate Atlantis and Universe will happen in the foreseeable future so enjoy Season 5, it's all that's left!

Stargate Atlantis was a spin off from Stargate SG1. It took them out of this universe to a galaxy far far away where they found Atlantis.
Anyone who has not watched Stargate Atlantis seasons 1-4 will not appreciate season 5, but it is doubtful if they would be tempted to buy it anyway.
Season 5 rounded off a number of the storylines which have been on the go for a while and managed to keep the impetus going with sufficient derring do and the odd touch of romance to make it both interesting and fun, the end was different from what I had imagined it might be and anyone who likes their galaxy travel to be remotely feasable will find fault, particularly with the ending, however I am happy with a bit of wibbly wobbley timey wimey so I enjoyed it.
It both concluded the ongoing storylines and left the door open for development should said open door be necessary.
It is good escapism for those who like sci-fi instead of soaps, the cast blended well producing consistantly good performances and while some storylines were a bit predictable by and large they were interesting. If you enjoyed seasons 1-4 then season 5 provides a good finalle.

Ich finde die Serie an sich ganz ok. Popcorn halt. Ich höre mir jeden Film bzw. Serie erst einmal im Original an und entscheide mich dann für eine Fassung. Im Falle von SG-A war es für mich ganz klar die deutsche Fassung, alleine wegen Rodney und Sheppard. Ich würde mir auch nie Robert de Niro im original antun. Seine Stimme ist einfach nicht so dolle wie die von Christian Brückner. Was er übrigens selbst sagt. Zurück zum Thema. Qualität der DVD's wunderbar. Nur: Die Tonspur. Sehr gute Qualität, allerdings habe ich, nicht wie bei den anderen SG-A Staffeln, das Gefühl, des richtigen "Raums". Irgendwie haben die Tonleute das verbockt. Die Räumlichkeit stimmt oft ganz und gar nicht. Die Stimmen sind, wenn die Darsteller beispielsweise nocht weit entfernt sind, so dicht am Mikro, als würde man direkt neben ihnen stehen. Es fehlt an Wärme und Atmosphäre. Das ist eben bei den Synchronfassungen immer die Krux, und erfordert von den Tonleuten ein gewisses Fingerspitzengefühl. Im Falle der 5. Season ist das meiner Meinung nach daneben gegangen. Nun, nach 4 Staffeln wollte ich nicht mehr auf englisch switchen. Ich habe mich verständlicherweise an die deutschen Stimmen gewöhnt. Fazit: Gute Serie, Rodney's Humor nicht mehr ganz so nett, wie in den anderen Staffeln, aber immer noch extrem unterhaltsam. Für SG Fans zu empfehlen. 1 Stern Abzug wegen dem Ton.

No problems with the discs on this set or any other in the series. Great product and value.

I'm a fan of SG-A, but the series peters out somewhat during this season. Its long running serial storylines become spread really thin, so its no surprise why they canceled the series altogether. On the other hand there were some really good one-off, self-contained episodes in this season, such as "Whispers" and "Remnants"... The series would have benefited from another half dozen of these. And I thought the "First Contact/Lost Tribe" mini-series was thrilling for the first 3/4 of it. "The Prodigal" was a satisfying conclusion to one of the longer running storylines, but in the end it seems like the show ultimately went down with Michael, Todd, and the other overused characters and stories that were dragged on for too long.

Good series overall. I would recommend the 5 seasons to anyone.
