La vi en clase de Psicología de las Adicciones y me encantó, así que decidí comprármela y al estar en HD se ve con muchísima mejor calidad. Muy buena compra.

22 Years Ago, They Thought It Was Fine To Exaggerate and Outright Lie About Drug Abuse.

The year is 2000, the anti-drug campaigns are full of exaggerations and outright lies. And this movie comes out. The people behind these campaigns think it's fine to lie, anything to scare teenagers from even trying drugs. Their egos are so huge that they can't even realize that teenagers are not as stupid as they think, and that once they are caught in a lie, they loose all credibility. Now, teenagers will stop listening to you and won't hear the truthful parts that they need to hear. Those anti-drug campaigns were epic failures. Now we know better.

This movie is so formulaic of all drug movies from that time. All the characters (and I mean every single one!) in the story who even touch drugs (even marijuana) must have horrible, unthinkable consequences happen to them, so that we may drill the message into everyone's minds -- DRUGS ARE BAD. Repeat with me, "DRUGS ARE BAD!"

One character unwittingly abuses diet pills. She ends up getting shock treatments. Really?!! I wouldn't be surprised if the writers and director never even tried drugs. They certainly don't seem to understand the reality of drug use.

Drugs certainly CAN be bad, and the problem is you can't be sure it won't happen to you when you start down that path. You're certainly better off to avoid them. But, these all-or-nothing drug messages did nothing to help the problem. The drug problem just continued to spiral out of control. Fortunately, anti-drug campaigns today are more truthful and I think are showing better success.

This movie is just another giant exaggeration about drug use. You're better off watching current documentaries on substance abuse, if you're trying to learn the truth about drugs. If you've never used drugs and like to think that those who have are horrible, immoral people who deserve God's wrath, then you might actually like this movie.

Unrelentingly unrealistic

If you are looking for a REALISTIC film about addiction, look elsewhere. This is artsy crap with decent to excellent actors in it. The movie is devoid of any reality regarding the plot, drugs, addiction, New York City, or mental illness and its treatment. DO NOT believe the hype. Maybe the book makes it all work, but the movie (this is not a "film") fails utterly.

This movie is chock full of rank stereotypes (New York jews, menacing racist crackers (who all live South of New York), moronic shoot 'em ups, and adolescent "dirty" sex fantasy) and just plain wrong plot lines. To suspend your disbelief and just go with the film is practically impossible if you have accumulated more than a quarter-century's common knowledge. Shock therapy, or ECT, hasn't been administered as depicted for AGES. Diet pills (speed) do not reduce people to catatonia and hallucinations--particularly if one has been off them for weeks. Diet pills certainly curb appetite, but not so much that one is unable to eat and must be fed forcibly by a tube(again, especially if one has been off them for weeks). I could go on and on about how unbelievable the plot lines are. But there is another fundamental problem--other than making your pupils dilate, the movie offers little in the way explanation as to WHY these characters are willing to go to such extremes. No one seems to enjoy/get relief from getting stoned. Oh, wait, is it because all drugs will make anyone do anything? (Uh, not really.) The young characters don't even go through withdrawal to justify their actions. They barely even sweat--they just get snippy when they run out. We are supposed to believe that Leto and Wayans drive (they suddenly have a CAR when the opening scene depicts them walking a TV set on a cart forEVER for $20) to Florida (gas money?) to score dope (because there is no fix in ALL of NYC) from some random dealer (they don't even know what CITY he is in) who just shot up a Waldbaum's and fled NYC in a tractor-trailer hauling oranges. I kid you not. Oh, and smoking pot makes you hallucinate. Right. I want my money back.

Watch out: Very soft transfer - No extras

Do not get this disk. Get the Lions Gate release (available for $9.99 on Amazon.com)

I ordered this disc after having read very positive reviews about the transfer and the extras. Consequently, I was quite surprised, and disappointed, when I received the disc, to discover that it had no extras whatsoever (not even a menu!) and that the video quality was barely similar to that of a scaled un SD DVD, that is, soft and muddy. Major let down!

What I hadn't realized was that the reviews I had read were about the american Lions Gate release of the film, and that the only version available on Amazon.ca was the slightly older (6 months) Alliance release. What contributed to my confusion was that both releases feature exactly the same artwork (except for tiny french title on the canadian one).

If you'd like to see the difference in quality between both transfers, you may compare eloquent screen captures of both releases at [...]

One point to note for my fellow francophones, however, is that the american transfer does not feature a french-dubbed track, nor french subtitles.

Hoping this helps... Now, I'm just about to ask Amazon.ca for my first refund ever...

This is absolutely one of the worst movies I have seen in years (and I have 547 movies)!!! This movie might be good if you are high on drugs, but otherwise, avoid it like the plague. I'm really surprised that it got such good reviews...I actually bought it based on the reviews but this time, I think the reviews are wrong. This movie tries to use symbolism and random camera moves so much that it's laughable. It basically is the sort of movie images that is for the idiots. If you want a movie that will stimulate your mind...avoid this movie. You would be better spending 2 hours watching Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Yet I can not understand what happened with this DVD, I bought arrived safely, the box and the disc looked great, but not reproduced the disc just arrived, I saved for a while longer. As I was watching the movie, I put the disc in the player and find it is not the film, which contains recording is poor quality juice telesales business for you. But it was too late to report this and return the disc, it was my mistake, but do not understand if it is a scam or what. In any case when you buy the first thing you should do is play the disc and check that all is well, otherwise, return it to the seller.

The DVD arrived in a thin paper package taped loosely in packaging tape. When I opened it the DVD case smelled horrible and was very sweaty. Then when I attempted to play the DVD I found that nothing I put it in, (my laptop, DVD player, etc.) would read it, even after thoroughly cleaning the disc. So All In All this was horribly sent. Though the shipping was very quick. NOTE- I did buy a used version, but it said that the DVD was "like new" so I am still very disappointed in this product... As for the content on the disc I can't say but I've heard it's an amazing movie.
