This movie is really a cracker and it made me jump in several places.
At the onset of the 2008 financial crisis, a distraught man, Jeffrey D'Asange, kills his business partners and estranged wife before taking his children, three-year-old Victoria and one-year-old Lilly, away from home. Driving dangerously fast on a snowy road, Jeffrey loses control and the car slides off and down the mountain, crashing into the woods. Surviving, he takes the children into an abandoned cabin and builds a fire, even though Victoria is resistant, thinking she saw someone inside. Planning to kill his daughters and commit suicide, he holds a gun to Victoria's head, but a shadowy figure drags him away and snaps his neck. They are rescued many years later and try to begin a new life, but there is something or someone who won't let them go.
The two little girls Victoria, (the elder of the two children) played by Morgan McGarry when she was younger and by Megan Charpentier when she was older and Lilly, (the youngest), played by Maya and Sierra Dawe when she was young and Isabelle Nélisse when she was older played their parts brilliantly and convincingly - particular the actresses who played Lilly, they were amazing.
I remember when Mama was released, I as well as my friends didn't know what to think of it. It seemed like a change of pace to the genre but the trailer didn't completely sell me on it. When I would talk about it with people who've seen it, they'd all tell me it was bad/average and to skip it so.. I listened. I'm so glad that I didn't avoid watching it now though because it's such an amazing and underrated film. The characters, the acting, the setting, were all perfect and made me wish it was longer. The quality on the blu ray is really good too! I recommend it to anyone, especially during Halloween/Winter because this movie is just phenomenal.
