I did enjoy this book but at times it felt like more of a romance story than a mystery. The mystery was very very slow to get going and at times I even wondered what the mystery was. It did pick up towards the end and become more interesting but there is no questioning of suspects and is more reacting to each situation as it happens than investigating. Some of the humour and language wasn't entirely to my taste and is usual to find in a cozy. But on the whole I enjoyed it because of the characters. Especially how she was going to finally end up with Riley. Lizzie is a very down to earth character with human traits and faults like worrying about what everybody thought of her. Lizzie's midlife crisis has come early and in her case it was in the form of buying a ruin down old house. As soon as she gets in the front door she realizes she has bitten of more than she can handle and hires Riley as a handyman. The fun and games start when ripping up the floor boards they discover love letters and an expensive engagement ring. Lizzie sets out to learn more about the previous owner in the hopes of returning it. When somebody breaks into her house and seems to be following her she turns to Riley for help. Can the pair of them find out why somebody is stalking her? And return the ring to the rightful owner?
I enjoyed this book so much. The story was romantic, funny and compelling to read. I was cheering on the love sick couple, to see what was under their noses and hoped the idiot boyfriend would show his true colours. The underlining mystery with the letters and ring add to the storyline and keep the reader interested. What do you think?
There was a lot going on in this book. Is the house Lizzie just bought really haunted? What happens when Riley, her contractor, finds something mysterious under the floor boards? This book is a great mystery and at times laugh out loud funny.
Fantastic characters who leapt off the pages. They were skilfully crafted and very believable. I liked the plot and the mystery, although it certainly wasn't very cosy at times. Looking forward to reading the next book.
Priceless humour and real life drama. I especially enjoyed the tract of Lizzie and Riley and their evolving feelings for one another. Would like a book from his perspective and how Lizzie hooked his attention and his sexual lust and then deeper feelings.
