Seconds Away - best second instalment of Mickey Bolitar series

I love this novel so much because it felt like a young group of friends who got caught up in the mystery of the Bat Lady are now back. They are ready to sneak out of their homes, send each other cryptic messages to meet up after dark, even risk getting in trouble with law enforcement. They don't back down when there's danger and they always have each other's back. That's what good crime fiction should be about: when you feel a sense of connection with the characters and you empathise with their quest to unravel the mystery at their own peril. I enjoy reading about the comeraderie between Mickey, Ema, Spoon and Rachel. They are peas in a pod, yet are so different. Each brings something valuable to their mission to uncover the truth.

Although I do admit sometimes I got frustrated with Mickey's attitude towards Myron and the way he blames his uncle for what happened to his mum and dad. However, he is the protagonist and I saw much of Myron's bleeding heart and sense of responsibility reflected in Mickey. It felt like Mickey is the younger version of Myron. I mean there is the whole basketball passion that they both share. But I think, having read all of the Myron novels, I could feel that they both embody this stoicism, knight-in-shining-armour, heroism type of persona. That's why trouble always finds them where they go haha!

I also giggled to myself when I read about how they're trying to figure out Ema's home situation because I knew from reading one of the novels from the Myron series.

The characters have this amazing bond with each other. There's witty dialogue. And the character of Spoon is just a comedic reprieve from the more suspenseful chapters. I like how he just spouted out random facts and made all these wisecrack jokes in life-threatening situations.

Definitely can't wait to read the next Mickey Bolitar book!

MAN this story just pulled me in. It delves deeper into the backgrounds of the characters. We learn something about the police chief that challenges our impressions of him. And Ema will reveal a wowzer of her secret life. Onward to book 3.

I love Harlan Coben books and the genre doesn't matter. I've read or purchased and plan to read every book Mr. Coben has written with nary a disappointment. The Mickey Bolitar novels are considered young adult reading, but they still have the same wit, plot, and suspense as any "adult" Coben novel, just minus any razzamatazz (there's usually not that much anyway). Now that I've whipped through book 2 of the 3 book series, I'm off to see what shenanigans young Mr. Bolitar has gotten into. My hope is there are more stories in the works, because I hardly stop reading until the final page of Harlan Coben books.

I was originally given shelter by harlen coben as a gift for my birthday in July and what a great book that was, I was devastated at the end of it knowing I had to wait for the next one as it ended on a real cliffhanger so when I saw this was out I bought it immediately and it didn't disappoint, was a great follow up book to the first one. It constantly keep me interested and I flew through it as I couldn't put it down. Originally I wasn't sure if I'd like these books as they are aimed at teens and I'm in my mid twenties but I have to say I absolutely love them. They are so well written they can be enjoyed by any age range. I've since also gone on to purchase all of harlens previous books and I'm now making my way through them. He has definitely been added to my list of favourite authors. Just a shame I have to wait a while until the next one comes out but I'm sure when it does it will be equally as good. A truly great read for anyone.

When I bought Shelter .. and then this one, Seconds Away, I was actually buying Harlen Coben books, because I have been following his writings over the years ... and I realized once the books were in hand that they were not about Myron but about MIckey his nephew .. and these were books for young public. I read both and loved them. In one way I liked how the author was able to put himself in the skin of an adolescent ... which reminded me of mine and how I used to sneak out at night ... but what amazed me the most was the fact that he chose a story of the past ... during the War ... and I appreciated that he was bring forth the past so that this younger generation could learn about people who during hard times, helping others ... to survive. In a way, these books show a path of how there is a continuance in life ... from one generation to another. And having white hair and looking like a witch (appearances) mean nothing compared to the acts of heroism.

Being a fan of Harlan Coben, I must read all his book! I really liked his hero Mickey, so I wanted to follow his journey, and I must say that this second story is better than the first one "Shelter". If you haven't read Shelter though , you won't understand everything that's going on in Seconds Away, so you must read it first! I love the character of "Spoon" and Ema as well... Some really funny passages, and also very moving. I love the fact that they're all a bit outcasted from society for different reasons. It's a massive page turner and very easy to read. Perfect for train journeys and busy lifestyle. I loved it so much that it's made me want to read all of the books I haven't read from Coben, and the Myron Bolitar novels! I'm reading Back Spin now and really enjoying it!
